The three layered birthday cake

Baking is one of my passions. Being creative and preparing fancy cakes makes me really happy. A few people might call it obsession (and it probably is) but improving my baking and decorations skills is a constant goal for me.

That’s the reason why I was so very glad when my dear friend MiSS CiTRO asked me to help her with a birthday cake for her boyfriend. And you have to know one thing: If MiSS  CiTRO and I are planning to make some motherf*** cake we get our motherf*** cake and it’s going to be a motherf”*** legendary cake! Asians don’t have the audacity to make simple cakes.

After some brainstorming and inspiring recipes we decided to make a three layered cake based on this recipe: Milk Tart Cake

We took the milk cream filling and decided to make three layers of sweet pleasure with nougat cream and lovely ganache coat. We spent about half 8-9 hours in the kitchen for this little baby:

For me it was the first time making a cake with several layers, so I was quite excited about all this. In my eyes it was a perfect challenge to increase my skills. :)

MiSS CiTRO came over to my place at about 12:00 and we started to make the sponge cake. Since MiSS CiTRO already made the cream the day before it didn’t take that long and we could prepare the ganache. (Turned out that the ganache needs ages to cool down so we put into the freezer) We also prepared some ornaments out of chocolate and covered the cake with it, a brilliant idea!

Just to make it clear: This cake is absolutely not diet friendly. It contains loads of sugar, cream and butter. To be honest you should hunger at least a week after eating a slice of it. And if you are not a sweet tooth then be careful with the sugar. I don’t even know how many people you need to finish this monster.

I am very pleased with the result and I am very proud of us. :) Can’t wait for the next birthday hehe.

Hope you feel a tiny bit inspired for the next birthday party now.
Cheers!

Food food food

There’s nothing really special in my life lately. I’m trying to lose weight and ending up cooking stuff I won’t eat since they are too greasy (logic).

Onomnomnom Cinnamon buns

I love cinnamon buns! You can’t beat warm and soft buns with a decent earl grey. (Well you probably could with some crispy sugar toasts or butter cookies or fluffy cupcakes or scones or … ) Buuuuuuuuut I sent most of them to my friends because I didn’t want to gain more weight. (I also stoped drinking earl grey every morning)

Aurélie Bastian

Since my latest macaron experiment I am a loyal follower of  ”Französisch kochen” a  cooking blog about the french cuisine. It’s written by the lovely Aurélie Bastian and is completely in German. I am so endlessly thankful for her macaron advices on her blog! They helped me alot and I am really pleased with my macaron creations now. :)

Except of  her macarons recipe I also tried these dishes:

 Pommes dauphines and Carottes Vichy

After watching “Julie and Julia” I wanted to try some french dishes soooo bad. I even got me a cookbook but never tried it out (shame on me). Not sure why, but Aurélie’s blog motivated me. :)

Hope you guys have a nice time in the kitchen as well!
Cheers!

Chicken Pita

Mom and I were really lazy the other day and decided to make and easy lunch: Chicken Pita.

We got us some chili pita bread and put them for a few minutes in the oven to get them warm and soft. Meanwhile mom made the chicken filets and I was preparing the veggie: lambs lettuce, tomato, avocado and some grilled zucchini. Basically we grabed all the stuff that was in the fridge and put it in the pita bread. Turned out to be really delicious and really simple. =)

I love easy meals!

Vegetarian BBQ

So I was at a friends place the other day for a bbq session and we literally didn’t had any meat at all. What went wrong? Basically nothing. I am not a vegetarian but a few of my friends are and we kept it simple: No meat. And now it’s getting really exciting! The host was also a vegan!

HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO ENJOY A VEGAN BBQ?!

Really easy: Focus on all the yummy veggie dishes! We had some amazing marinated aubergine and zucchini grilled. *drool* Marinate the veggie slices in olive oil and seasoning (pepper, salt, herbs, garlic, chili etc.) for a day and you get some delicious stuff! A few other treats had been: garlic stuffed mushrooms, herb tofu, grilled corn and of course bread with yummy homemade pesto and aoli (made with soy yogurt).

I also decided to make a couscous salad with sunflower seeds, sweet pepper, tomatoes, lemon juice, olive oil, mint and parsley. =) *nom nom nom*

At the end of the day I was really stuffed and really happy since the food was sooo good. We focus on the veggie more often since there are tons of great dishes! I hope I could inspire you to try some meat-less recipe for next bbq!

Cheers!
